About this blog

This blog is trying to be my means for keeping people updated, sharing information, and having some fun with words and pictures while I do it.  I hope people can find it at least one of fun, interesting, or useful.

Also, if you’re reading this blog and wondering about something related to stuff I’m doing, please ask! Post a comment or send me an email. I would like to try to respond to peoples’ curiosities about China or wherever else I happen to be, geographically or otherwise.

Lastly, a version of the email I sent to people on my update list, modified to suit an introduction to this blog. I will still use the update list for major announcements like moving to a different country or something.  But for the other stuff, there’s this blog.

Greetings friends, near and far,

You may have started thinking that you would never hear from me again, as it’s been about a year since I actually told anyone about what I’m doing. Long story short, last years’ surprise escapades involved getting my security clearance (thanks everyone who helped!) and then accidentally falling in love and moving back to Portland for a year instead of going to Taiwan. Then, this summer, I attended the first annual Lushan Institute summer program in China and it was wonderful. I met some very awesome people while learning Chinese, and I hope to see these people again in various parts of the world!

Now, I’m teaching English in an elementary school in Suzhou (technically, Wujiang), which is in the Jiangsu province in China. They are developing a new branch of the main school, the Suzhou Experimental Elementary Schoolis developing a new branch. When I visited in July to see the campus and meet people, I was surprised to discover that they already have a partnership with the Woodstock Chinese Immersion School in Portland, and that at least some of the teachers here have already lived in Portland for a year! My turn now, finally.  I plan to be in China all year, with some side trips here and there.

All for now.
Further bulletins as events warrant,
-Tracy
